Face Recognition by Microsoft and Facebook

Whau, it seems that this week was much going on. I have heart the wording face recognition at least two times.

It started with the announcement of Microsoft new operating system Windows 8. According to some blog post, Micrsosoft gave us a first glimpse of what we can expect to see in the new operating system Windows 8. Microsoft calls the technology My PC Knows Me and it basically means that the PC can use a connected camera to recognize a user and act depending on the user’s position in the room. Microsoft plans to improve sensors in Windows 8 mainly based on face recognition technology.

Facial recognition will be used to switch PC users quickly. The key features are: Proximity detection, facial detection, Rapid “on”, User authentication and login, fast and easy user switching, desktop lock using face detection and proximity detection, fast switch to sleep mode.

We at KeyLemon are proud that we have develop such solution and are propsing it to our customers http://www.keylemon.com/product/

Then, I just have heart that Facebook acquired a technology for event tagging in photos. According to some blog post, the two team members headed to Facebook will work on tying Facebook photos to events so that all photos uploaded from the same event can be associated together via event tagging. The technology allows resizing and face recognition of photos.

It is good to hear that face recognition technology gets more visibility in the market.

  2. Hi,
Doing my research, I just find one great book about Face recognition which inspire some future ideas by identifying potential research directions.
The book consists of 28 chapters, each focusing on a certain aspect of the problem. This book will serve as a handbook for students, researchers and practitioners in the area of automatic (computer) face recognition.
This is the link : http://www.intechopen.com/books/show/title/face_recognition
Book is free to download of course.
Hope you will enjoy it. Cheers!
