KeyLemon is now introducing the capture from a Windows video acquisition device. This is a second library made as a wrapper around the standard KeyLemonFaceSDK. Some C code examples illustrate how to make a face model, verify or identify the identity and detect liveliness (anti-spoofing method) by counting the eye-blinks.

Easy and fast SDK performance evaluation

Testing on Windows and Mac is now automated, just fill the SDK license request and instantly get a 30-day trial license per e-mail with a download link. The SDK archive contains a small pre-compiled utility that you can use to evaluate the algorithm performance. This tool performs face detection, face model creation, face recognition and face identification

KeyLemonFaceSDK use cases : Android and iPhone

KeyLemon uses its SDK to develop some applications. You can have a look at what is possible to do with our KeyLemonFaceSDK on android and iPhone. The Android app takes a picture each time you unlock your device and append the photos to do a face evolution movie if you’re recognized. If someone else unlocks you device, the photo is taken and the GPS coordinates are saved. On iPhone, the app allows you to access some sites (Facebook, Gmail…) without having to enter your credentials, just by looking at the device. The hijackers are also saved with the GPS position.

What is LemonDay?

KeyLemon is now introducing the new plugin LemonDay. Each time your face is recognized, an updated photo will automatically be stored in your computer. LemonDay allows you to tracks your face evolution by saving automatically one image day after day. Collect photos of yourself, create a movie of your evolution and share it in the most simple and effective way.

Why LemonDay?

KeyLemon already takes pictures of non-authorized users and it is always fun to see those faces. We thought it would be cool if we could store a daily picture of yourself. By nature, KeyLemon needs your face to login, so why not automatically store a picture of you? By the way, it is very funny to see how often you change your T-shirt or which your favorite Sweater is.

Unfortunately the “KLFSDKDemo” is not available for the public. We are still under development of a new product which is currently under alpha testing. The new product, coming soon on Android, will come with an hijacker function and social integration with Facebook.

How do I update to the last version ?

We are excited to announce that KeyLemon 2.5 is now available for the world, just one monhts after 2.4.4.

This new release comes with two main new features:

1. Multiple face model management
2. Anti-spoofing check for login

1. Multiple face model management

The profile tab has changed significantly and allows you to add new face models to improve recognition in different lightning environment.

For each face model, you can see under the model name:

• the number of authentications (number of time you have been logged using this face model)
• the mean time of recognition

These statistics will allow you to judge the “quality” of the face model as we will explain below.

When you select a model, the details of the selected model appear on the right side. Note that you still have the possibility to “improve” (previously called “adapt”) an existing face model.

When do you need to improve your model or add a new one?

When you create your face model, it will be optimized for the current conditions (luminosity, position, intensity, isotropy or background).

The face recognition can fail if they are too many differences between the face model and the current conditions. This could happen when the sun’s light is changing or if you’re moving with your laptop.

In this case, you have now two solutions:

1. improve your face model
2. add a new facemodel

1. Model improvement

If the recognition works sporadically or takes a long time (mean authentication time is high), you can improve an existing model to adapt it to the current conditions. The model will be modified to take the 2 situations into account.

The adaptation wizard is similar to the model creation wizard. For more information, please refer to the article on how to create your face model in our userguide.

2. Add a new facemodel

If the new lighting conditions are too different between the first model and when you want to improve it, KeyLemon cannot process an improvement, so a new face model will be created.

You can force a new model creation by clicking “Add a new face model”. A good habit would be to give as new name for this face model the name of the current place (for example “office” or “home”), or current time (for example “office morning” or “office afternoon”).

Note for those updating from a previous version: this new feature will require that you create your profile again.

2. Antispoofing check for login

For those of you who want more security, KeyLemon offers now a new feature to detect is someone is trying to spoof the system (typically, if someone use a picture of you to gain an illegitimate advantage to log into the system).

The antispoofing algorithm works as follow:

The first anti-spoofing detection is performed in parallel with the recognition. Once both of these processes validate, a blue eye icon appears in the top right corner of the video stream. Now blink your eyes once to log into your session.

To activate this feature, check the “anti-spoofing check for login” option in the general tab of KeyLemon Control Center

Other new features

Sometime, you are not very satisfied of the thumbnail picture which is saved for your face model. You would better have another facial expression. For this reason, we added in the last step of the face model creation wizard the possibility to choose between several picture that were used to create your face model.

The focus for this release was to bring together Windows and Mac versions of KeyLemon. On Mac, the plugin LemonScreen has now been renamed LemonLock (as on Windows since version 2.4). Also LemonLogin plugin integrates now the screen lock (allows to unlock your session using face recognition). Login into the correct account at boot up will come soon on Mac.

Among the common new features on Windows and Mac, we have now added a notification if hijackers have been captured when logging back into the session.

On Windows, clicking on the notification balloon will display the hijacker picture directly. On Mac, we remind that Growl is required to display such notification.

We also added the opportunity, once you ended your trial period, to extend it by submitting your feedback. For this click on the “extend trial” button.

This will open a new window in which you answer some questions. Your trial period will be extended once you have submitted the survey.

Facebook has never been useful at communicating news about the website. Most of the time, updates are to the detriment of the users and contrary to any user comments. It’s exactly what happened recently.

Automatic tag

A few weeks ago, we talked about the integration of a face recognition algorithm in Facebook. This recognition allows automatically tagging of people’s friends when adding photo. This feature, deactivated by default, has already caused some fear among members. The fear of not being able to control pictures uploaded by tagging it, whereas previously it was already possible to do this manually.

This feature is now activated by default on every account of the social network. Without a word or warning, everyone will have this option proposed.
It’s relatively fun to enhance things on a social network, but their way to communicate is not very effective.

Of course, this function is not obligatory. It’s possible to deactivate it by going in the privacy settings

Possible solutions

If we wanted to go far, it would be more preferable that each photo tagging are required to be validated by the ‘tagged’ person. Or that the automatically tagged photo is waiting on the agreement of the person who is tagged. So then it can be published.

The apology…

However, Facebook apologizes by specifying that the service exists only to simplify the life of its users, according to the social network blog.

The site offers a simple and very large selection of existing software. After selection it’s possible to see a description with screenshots of the product.
